Garfield doing what Garfield does best — absolutely nothing.
This one has such a good moody, laid-back vibe. Garfield is stretched out with his Get Stuff Done book over his face, surrounded by oversized GOOD TIMES lettering that is honestly artwork all on its own.
Every letter was individually cut, shaped and hand painted. They’re big, dimensional and intentionally worked into the composition, with Garfield overlapping and lounging right across them instead of the typography just sitting behind him.
Garfield himself was individually cut, carved, shaped, sanded and hand painted, with a ton of little details throughout — his curled toes, fingers, claws, tail, facial features and even the tiny lettering and pages on his book. Everything is built in layers to give him that rounded, almost sculpted look rather than feeling like a flat cutout.
And the frame might be one of my favorite parts.
I made it from solid canary wood, and this particular piece of lumber had the prettiest natural red streaks running through the warm golden grain. It’s a deeper frame at approximately 1.25”, so you can really see the hardwood and grain from the sides too. Paired with the deep burgundy background, it gives the whole piece a rich, slightly retro feel that fits Garfield perfectly.
